Dump trailer won't raise? Check a few basics.
1. Check the Battery
A weak or discharged battery is one of the first things to check when a dump trailer won't raise.
Make sure the trailer is plugged into your truck. If the pump clicks, runs slowly or starts to raise and then stops, the battery may not have enough power to operate the hydraulic pump.
If the battery is very low, the truck connection may not be enough. Use a compatible battery charger to properly recharge the trailer battery.
Remember: a battery can have enough power to run the trailer lights but still be too weak to operate the dump.
2. Check the Connections
Look for loose or corroded battery terminals, damaged cables and poor ground connections.
Dump pumps draw a lot of current, so even a poor connection can cause problems.
3. Check the Load
Does the bed raise empty but struggle when loaded?
Make sure you haven't exceeded the trailer's payload or GVWR. Heavy materials like dirt, gravel and concrete can overload a dump trailer surprisingly quickly.
4. Check the Hydraulic System
Look for visible leaks and check the hydraulic-fluid level according to the manufacturer's instructions.
If the pump runs but the bed doesn't raise—or raises unusually slowly—the system may need further diagnosis.
Still Won't Dump?
Don't keep holding the button and hoping for the best. You can drain the battery or make an existing problem worse.
